Professor Stephanie Moser holds a position in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Southampton. Her research focuses on reception studies in archaeology, the history and reception of ancient Egypt, museum history, and visual representation in archaeological illustration. She has conducted extensive studies on Victorian designers' influences from ancient Egypt and the role of museum exhibitions in constructing cultural knowledge.
Her academic contributions include four major monographs: Ancestral Images, Wondrous Curiosities, Designing Antiquity, and Painting Antiquity. She currently supervises four PhD students in Archaeology, two of whom are part-time. Professor Moser has held prestigious fellowships from the Society of Antiquaries (2014), Leverhulme Trust (2015), and the British Academy (2013).
She leads research projects funded by the Leverhulme Trust and the Peder Sager Wallenberg Charitable Trust, including studies on the history of antiquities trade and the design of museum experiences in the digital age. Her external roles include Chair of the Antiquity Trust and keynote speaking engagements at major conferences such as the 'Tea with Sphinx' conference (2017) and the Sackler Symposium (2018).
Professor Moser's work bridges archaeological scholarship with public engagement, emphasizing the intersection of past and present through visual and material culture analysis. She actively contributes to academic governance, serving as a reviewer for the 2021 Archaeology Research Excellence Framework (REF2021).
