Stephanie Malin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Colorado State University and an adjunct Associate Professor at the Colorado School of Public Health. Her work focuses on environmental justice, environmental health, and social movements related to energy extraction. She co-founded the Center for Environmental Justice at CSU and is recognized for award-winning teaching in environmental sociology. Malin holds a Ph.D. from Utah State University and completed a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship at Brown University.
Her research examines community impacts of extractive industries, including uranium mining and hydraulic fracturing, with a focus on environmental racism, health disparities, and neoliberal governance. She has secured grants from the NSF, NIH, and Department of Energy. Notable publications include Building Something Better (2022) and The Price of Nuclear Power (2015). Malin teaches courses on environmental justice, water policy, and qualitative research methods, emphasizing public sociology's role in policy change.
