Stephanie Lockwood serves as an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech University at Waco, where she has taught since relocating to the extension site in 2014 after joining TTU in 2006. Her instructional portfolio includes core Ecology and Evolution courses alongside specialized electives such as Invertebrate Zoology, Medical Entomology, and Tropical Marine Biology.
Her research centers on coral reef ecosystems and marine field ecology, with strong emphasis on experiential learning. She co-directs the Texas Integrative Diving and Ecological Studies Laboratory (TIDES) in partnership with McLennan Community College, facilitating undergraduate research projects conducted on the Mesoamerican Coral Reef in Roatan, Honduras. This work integrates entomological studies with tropical marine environments through student-designed field investigations.
Dr. Lockwood actively mentors undergraduate researchers through the TIDES program, guiding independent project development from hypothesis formation to field execution. She is concurrently advancing her diving expertise toward Dive Control Specialist certification to enhance research supervision capabilities in marine environments. Her professional activities bridge classroom instruction with immersive field experiences in ecological conservation.
