Stephanie Lascelles serves as Associate Professor of Legal Research and Writing at Chapman University's Dale E. Fowler School of Law, teaching Legal Analysis Writing & Research I and II since joining the faculty in 2005. Her academic role builds upon extensive practical experience as a litigator at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Los Angeles.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a minor in Business from the University of Southern California and a Juris Doctor from Southwestern University School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude. During law school, she served as Note & Comment Editor on the Law Review and received honors in Moot Court.
Professor Lascelles' research centers on legal writing pedagogy and its application in complex litigation contexts. Her scholarship is deeply informed by professional experience drafting pre-trial, trial, and appellate briefs for high-profile cases involving novel legal issues across labor & employment, complex business, and environmental law domains. She emphasizes practical skill development for real-world legal practice through her teaching methodology.
Prior to Chapman, she developed significant mentorship experience teaching a year-long workshop to Southwestern Law Review staff on researching, drafting, and editing case notes and comments, demonstrating her commitment to legal writing education.
