Stephanie Jed is Professor of Italian and Comparative Literature at UC San Diego's Department of Literature. She holds a PhD from Yale University and specializes in Italian early modern literature, medieval Italian literature, humanism, comparative early modern knowledge constructions, paleography, history of libraries, history of writing, gender studies, interdisciplinary theory, language acquisition, and neuroscience-literature connections.
Her research bridges literary analysis with historical inquiry, examining knowledge production systems, textual traditions, and gender representations across cultures. Major works explore the relationship between violence and humanistic traditions, gender in republican thought, and transnational literary frameworks.
Recent publications demonstrate sustained interest in interdisciplinary connections between humanities and sciences, asymmetries in knowledge representation, and resistance narratives in historical contexts. Her scholarship frequently examines Italian literary traditions through contemporary theoretical frameworks.
