Stephanie J. Shaw

Stephanie J. Shaw is a Professor in the Department of History at Ohio State University, where she has been a faculty member since 1988. She has also contributed to the Departments of Women’s Studies and Black Studies, reflecting her interdisciplinary focus on African-American history and gender studies.

• Education: B.A. from North Carolina Central University (1977), M.A. (1979) and Ph.D. (1986) in History from Ohio State University.

Research Interests center on African-American history, particularly Black women's experiences, labor history, and social dynamics during the Jim Crow Era. Her work bridges historical analysis with gender and racial identity studies, emphasizing marginalized communities' narratives.

Publications span interdisciplinary themes, including books on Black professional women and W.E.B. Du Bois, alongside articles analyzing the Great Depression through ex-slave narratives. Her scholarship often intersects with critical race theory and oral history methodologies.
