Stephanie Hare is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Her research focuses on schizophrenia, using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to investigate neural networks underlying hallucinations and cognitive impairments. She also explores ethical, legal, and social implications of neuroscience technologies and AI. Dr. Hare holds a BS in Neurobiology (University of Wisconsin Madison, 2009), MA in Philosophy (Loyola University Chicago, 2012), MA in Neuroscience (Georgia State University, 2016), and a PhD in Neuroscience (Georgia State University, 2018).
Her work combines neuroscientific methods with neuroethics, including co-leading a working group on AI ethics (Neuroethics Society). Key research areas include kynurenine pathways in schizophrenia, TMS-fMRI integration, and policy challenges in mental health practices like virtual civil commitment hearings.
