Stephanie Hanson serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Allied and Population Health at South Dakota State University, teaching core public health courses including PUBH 702 (Public Health Theory and Practice), PUBH 753 (Maternal and Child Health), PUBH 754 (Mixed Methods Research), PUBH 755 (Program Planning and Evaluation), and PUBH 761 (Social Epidemiology).
Her academic credentials include a B.S. in Biology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, an M.P.H. in Global Health Epidemiology and Disease Control from The George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, and ongoing doctoral studies in Social Work at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Hanson's research centers on empowerment as a protective factor against perinatal mental health disorders (defined as the period from preconception through five years postpartum), with broader expertise in maternal-child health systems and mental health interventions. She currently leads two major initiatives: the $800,000 HRSA-funded BIRTH-SD-AIM project and the $10,000 Wokini Challenge Grant for BIRTH-SD-UNITE, both focused on enhancing perinatal care safety in South Dakota.
