Stephanie Hankey is an academic staff member of the Department of Design at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam (FH Potsdam). She holds visiting roles such as Loeb Fellow at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design and Visiting Industry Associate at the Oxford Internet Institute. With a background in design and technology ethics, she co-founded the NGO Tactical Tech, focusing on public education about technology's societal impact. She possesses a degree in History of Design from Manchester Metropolitan University and a Master's in Computer Related Design from the Royal College of Art.
Her research explores communication strategies for complex issues like digital sovereignty and climate change, blending design, art, and activism. Notable projects include co-curating 'Everything Will Be Fine' and the award-winning 'The Glass Room' exhibition, engaging over 250,000 people globally. She has received the Ashoka Fellowship for her work as a social entrepreneur.
Collaborations include a tandem project on digital sovereignty with Prof. Dr. Sebastian Meier, addressing knowledge transfer and behavioral change through interdisciplinary methods.
