Stephanie Federico serves as Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Trieste. They hold multiple administrative positions including Delegato per l'Orientamento in ingresso in the Head's Office, Member of the Executive Board and Department's Board, and Vice-Coordinator of the Boards of Studies.
Dr. Federico's research focuses on drug design and synthesis of protein-kinase inhibitors targeting GSK-3β and CK-1, which play critical roles in neurodegenerative processes including ALS, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's diseases. Their work involves designing bicyclic systems as bioisosteres of adenine, specifically [1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a][1,3,5]triazine and [1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidine nuclei, to develop potent inhibitors.
As a member of Prof. Spalluto's research group specializing in Drug Design, Synthesis and Formulation, Dr. Federico collaborates with researchers from the University of Salerno, Padua, and Bologna for compound assays and molecular modeling. They actively participate in multiple research projects including Microgrants, 10%budget ricerca initiatives, and ALS therapeutic development.
Dr. Federico serves on Doctoral Studies Boards for Chemistry programs (Cycles XXXVI-XXXIX) as both Member and External Expert, demonstrating significant academic leadership within the department.
