Dr Stephanie Classmann is a Visiting Fellow at the LSE Law School. She concurrently serves as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of York, leading the ESRC-funded project 'Defendants as Victims: Vulnerability, Victimhood and Safeguards from Charge to Conviction'. Her research examines how vulnerability and victimisation impact defendants' legal protections and proposes reforms to criminal procedure laws. She holds a PhD from the LSE (2023), focusing on the inadequacy of liberal universalism in criminal justice and representative governance, advocating for a realist revival in political thought.

Research Interests: Criminal justice systems, procedural fairness, political philosophy, institutional mediation of disagreement, and the intersection of vulnerability and legal safeguards. Her work bridges empirical legal studies with normative political theory, emphasizing the role of institutions in negotiating societal differences.
Grants & Collaborations: Leads the ESRC-funded project collaborating with Crown Prosecution Service, HM Courts, and Probation Service. Outputs will inform the Law Commission of England and Wales.
Professional Activities: Co-founder of the Philosophy, Law and Politics Graduate Forum; taught at LSE, Kent, Sydney, Düsseldorf, and Paris (Cergy). Visiting Fellow at Goethe University Frankfurt's Institute for Advanced Study (202X).
