Dr. Stephanie Cassin is a Professor and Director of Clinical Training in the Department of Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University, and Director of the HEAL Lab. She holds a faculty appointment at the University of Toronto’s Department of Psychiatry and is affiliated with the University Health Network’s Centre for Mental Health. With a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Calgary, her career includes postdoctoral work at the University of Toronto/Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and clinical roles at CAMH and UHN. Her research focuses on disordered eating, obesity, and bariatric surgery outcomes, emphasizing psychosocial interventions like CBT and motivational interviewing. She co-leads Project ECHO Ontario CBT, a virtual training program for mental health professionals.
Her research interests encompass food addiction, body image, and improving treatment accessibility through telehealth. Key contributions include studies on CBT efficacy post-bariatric surgery and the impact of food addiction on mental health. Teaching includes courses on clinical psychology, eating disorders, and CBT. Dr. Cassin’s work bridges clinical practice and research, addressing psychosocial factors in obesity and weight management. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and a textbook on psychological care in severe obesity.
