Stephanie Brown serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Communication & Media Studies Department at Washington College, teaching CMS 201 - Contemporary Popular Film and Teleivsion, CMS 250 - Intermediate Comm and Media Theory, and CMS 294 - Stand-Up Comedy and the History of Popular Media. Previously, she taught at West Chester University of Pennsylvania and Saint Louis University. She actively contributes to the Society for Cinema and Media Studies through podcast production and committee leadership.
Her academic credentials include:

Dr. Brown's research integrates gender dynamics, power structures, and media evolution across popular culture and comedy industries. Her book project examines labor and identity in stand-up comedy, while parallel studies investigate TikTok's political humor aesthetics, comedy podcasting as marginalized voice archives, and desktop documentaries for community-building. Her pre-academic industry experience at the New York Television Festival and VOX talent agency informs her practice-oriented scholarship.
