Dr. Stephanie Briers is a post-doctoral researcher at ETH Zurich's Department of Environmental Systems Science (D-USYS), affiliated with the TdLab's 'Cultural Studies of Science' group. She contributes to the Horizon Europe-funded DIAMOND project developing next-generation Open Integrated Assessment Models for net-zero sustainable development. Her work bridges architecture, urbanism, and transdisciplinary research to address inclusive urban sustainability challenges.
Her research focuses on energy justice, public infrastructure equity (particularly lighting in informal settlements), and participatory modeling methodologies. Notable projects include analyzing nighttime urban dynamics in marginalized areas and evaluating South Africa's coal-dependent energy systems. She critiques techno-capitalist approaches to infrastructure while advocating for community-centered solutions.
Her publications span urban sociology, climate policy, and interdisciplinary research methodologies. Current work emphasizes mutual understanding frameworks in large transdisciplinary collaborations and the socio-spatial impacts of lighting infrastructure. She holds a PhD in architecture/urbanism and maintains active engagement with global sustainability initiatives.
Labs/Teams: TdLab (Transdisciplinary Laboratory), Cultural Studies of Science group. Current projects include DIAMOND (Net-Zero Modeling) and multiple urban infrastructure equity studies.
