Stephanie Bogart is an Associate Professor at the University of Florida within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Department of Anthropology. She serves as the Anthropology Undergraduate Coordinator, overseeing curriculum development and student advising. Dr. Bogart's research explores the interplay between environmental influences and primate behavior, with a focus on chimpanzees as a model for understanding human evolution.

Dr. Bogart's research spans multiple subfields of primatology, including behavioral ecology, tool use, communication patterns, and conservation biology. Her work integrates methods from anthropology, neuroscience, and biology to examine how environmental pressures shape primate cognition, sociality, and reproduction. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in Senegal's Fongoli Savanna Chimpanzee Site and Mt. Assirik Research Site, with over 14 years of on-site research. Collaborative work includes partnerships with institutions like the Yerkes National Primate Center, MD Anderson Biomedical Research Center, and zoos in Milwaukee and Jacksonville.
Her recent publications highlight trends in chimpanzee behavioral adaptation to extreme savanna environments, tool use during foraging, and neuroanatomical asymmetries in primates. Studies span genetic influences on social behavior, multimodal communication, and conservation strategies for critically endangered primate populations. Dr. Bogart has also investigated laterality in motor control and cortical development in captive chimpanzees.
Academic service includes roles as Chair of the UF Faculty Senate Welfare Council, Co-Chair of the Presidential LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee, and leadership in undergraduate education committees. She has taught courses such as Human Sexuality and Culture, Primate Behavior, and Human Evolution.
Fieldwork and laboratory collaborations emphasize long-term savanna chimpanzee research, neuroscience studies with captive primates, and interdisciplinary approaches combining ecological modeling with genetic analysis. Her work bridges biological anthropology and conservation science to address both theoretical and applied questions in primate behavior and human evolution.
