Dr. Stephanie Bangarth is a Professor of History at King’s University College, affiliated with the University of Western Ontario. She holds an adjunct appointment as Teaching Professor in the Department of History at Western and is a Faculty Research Associate with the Collaborative Graduate Program in Migration and Ethnic Studies (MER). Her research focuses on Canadian social history, immigration policy, human rights advocacy, and the intersection of gender and agency in marginalized communities. She has received a SSHRC Standard Research Grant (2010-2013) for her work on F. Andrew Brewin’s influence on 20th-century Canadian social movements.
Dr. Bangarth earned a BA from King’s University College and a PhD from the University of Waterloo. Her teaching spans courses on Canadian social history, human rights, and migration studies, including undergraduate and graduate directed studies. She actively contributes to academic communities through roles such as Book Review Editor for H-Canada and membership in MANECCS. She also volunteers with Girl Guides of Canada, serving in leadership roles since 1993.
Her research explores topics like Japanese-American incarceration during WWII, post-war refugee policies, and transnational activism. Notable publications include Voices Raised in Protest (2008) and articles on Asian immigration and Cold War refugee crises. She advises graduate students and emphasizes community engagement through roles in MER and Girl Guides.
