Dr. Stephanie A Fisher is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine, she serves as Associate Program Director for the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship and consults for Illinois' 24/7 Perinatal HIV Hotline and Syphilis Warmline.
Her educational background includes:
- BA: University of California-Los Angeles (2010)
- MS: Georgetown University (2012)
- MD/MPH: University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine (2016)
- Residency: Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis (2020)
- Fellowship: Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (2023)
Dr. Fisher develops translational research on metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers in pregnancy, focusing on social drivers of health and chronic psychosocial stress. Her work investigates pathways to adverse outcomes including hypertension, fetal growth restriction, preterm birth, and infectious diseases. As Co-PI of the Chicago Perinatal Origins of Disease Study, she examines social, environmental, and biologic exposures across 500 mother-child dyads.
Her 2025 publications reveal strong emphasis on nutrition-environment interactions in pregnancy, with studies on fatty acids in HIV-affected pregnancies, omega-3 supplementation for preterm birth prevention, and racial disparities in environmental chemical exposures. These reflect her commitment to addressing health disparities through metabolomics and translational approaches.
Dr. Fisher's awards include:
- Magnus P. Urnes Resident Teaching Award (2025)
- National Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education (2024)
- Outstanding Fellow Teaching Award (2023)
- Chief Administrative Resident (2019)
- Resident of Excellence in Obstetrics Award (2019)
- 34th Annual Dr. David Rothman Resident Research Award (2019)
- Distinction in Research Award (2016)
She mentors fellows as Associate Program Director and leads two NIH-supported clinical trials: the MASH study on metabolomic signatures and social determinants of health, and the Chicago Perinatal Origins of Disease Cohort focusing on Black and Brown populations. Her NICHD Women's Reproductive Health Research K12 Scholarship supports this work.
Dr. Fisher directs a translational research program within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, collaborating with NUCATS and professional societies including the Perinatal Research Society and Society for Reproductive Investigation.
