Stephane Wolton

Professor Stephane Wolton is a faculty member in the Department of Government at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He holds the rank of Professor in Political Science and serves as Director of the Political Science and Political Economy group at STICERD Research Center. His primary research focuses on political economy, electoral accountability, and special interest groups, with additional interests in autocratic regimes, discrimination, and media bias. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago in 2014.

Wolton teaches political economy courses and contributes to LSE's academic leadership through editorial roles, including Editor-in-Chief of the Quarterly Journal of Political Science. His work bridges formal theory and quantitative methods to address democratic and autocratic governance challenges. Notable affiliations include the Center for Economic Policy Research, Rimini Center for Economic Analysis, and Baffi Carefin Center at Bocconi University.

His recent research explores topics such as xenophobic violence, decentralized information in conflict zones, and the dynamics of executive power. Wolton emphasizes the 'TIEM' approach, linking theoretical models to empirical findings, particularly in evaluating research designs and policy implications.
