Stephane Loridant is a Research Director (DR2) at IRCELYON (Institut de Recherches sur la Catalyse et l'Environnement de Lyon), a joint research unit between CNRS and Claude Bernard University Lyon 1. He leads research in the "Heterogeneous Catalysis for Energy Transition" (CATREN) team, focusing on catalyst development for sustainable chemical processes.
Dr. Loridant's educational background includes:
- Habilitation to Direct Research (2007) from UCBL-Lyon1
- Doctorate in materials science and engineering with honors (1997) from the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble (INPG)
- DEA in materials science and engineering with honors (1993) from INPG
- Engineering Diploma in materials science with honors (1993) from the National School of Electrochemistry and Electrometallurgy of Grenoble (ENSEEG)
His research focuses on heterogeneous catalysis for energy transition, with particular expertise in oxide catalysts for selective oxidation reactions of light alkanes and dehydration of biosourced molecules. Dr. Loridant employs a rational approach combining catalyst preparation, catalytic evaluation, and in situ/operando characterization techniques, especially Raman and IR spectroscopy. His work has significantly advanced understanding of active sites in catalysts for C1-C4 chemistry and developed novel applications of Raman spectroscopy for catalyst characterization.
Analysis of his recent publications shows a strong focus on ceria-based catalysts (particularly Pt/CeO2 and Pd/CeO2 systems) for methane oxidation and water-gas shift reactions, bifunctional catalysis for syngas conversion to light olefins, and advanced characterization techniques to understand catalyst structure-activity relationships at multiple scales. His work bridges fundamental surface science with practical applications in energy and environmental catalysis.
Dr. Loridant has achieved significant recognition in his field with an h-factor of 39 and over 5,700 citations. His scientific production includes 88 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 4 book chapters, 9 patents (including 3 PCT extensions), and over 100 conference communications.
Throughout his career, Dr. Loridant has supervised approximately 60 non-permanent staff members and provided over 200 hours of teaching in Master 2 and engineering programs. He has been responsible for 18 research contracts and has held leadership positions including Head of the ECI2D research team (2015-2020) and Head of Raman spectroscopy at IRCELYON (2004-2010).
Dr. Loridant leads the CATREN research team at IRCELYON, which focuses on developing heterogeneous catalysts for energy transition applications. His team employs advanced characterization techniques to understand catalyst behavior under operating conditions, with particular emphasis on in situ/operando Raman and IR spectroscopy for rational catalyst design.
