Dr. Stephan Siebel is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Endocrinology) at Yale School of Medicine. He is affiliated with the Department of Pediatrics, the Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes division, and the Kibbey Lab. He serves as the Technical Director of the Chemical Metabolism Core at Yale, where he leads research in metabolomics, lipidomics, and metabolic flux analysis.
- MD, Heinrich Heine University (2006)
- PhD, Investigative Medicine Program, Yale University
- Residency: General Pediatrics, Clinical and Biochemical Genetics
- Fellowship: Pediatric Endocrinology
Dr. Siebel's research focuses on the role of central carbon metabolism in diabetes mellitus and obesity. His work integrates advanced metabolic phenotyping techniques to understand liver metabolism and its dysregulation in metabolic diseases. He has a strong interest in hormonal disorders and metabolic syndrome in pediatric patients.
His recent publications highlight trends in metabolic flux analysis, mitochondrial metabolism, and cancer metabolism, particularly in liver and breast cancer contexts. These studies employ stable isotope tracing and mass spectrometry to uncover metabolic dependencies in disease states.
He is board certified in Clinical Biochemical Genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG), with original certification in 2015.
Dr. Siebel is actively involved in clinical care and research at Yale Medicine, contributing to both patient care and scientific advancement in pediatric endocrinology and metabolism. While specific grant funding and student mentorship are not detailed, his leadership in a core facility and collaborative research suggest an active role in training and interdisciplinary science. He is a key member of research teams investigating metabolic diseases, with frequent collaborations with Richard Kibbey, Daniel Vatner, Graeme Mason, and others.
