Dr. Steph Houghton is a Lecturer in Environmental Humanities at La Trobe University, affiliated with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds concurrent roles as Research Officer at the John Richards Centre for Rural Ageing Research and previously at the Climate Change Adaptation Lab. Her research focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to climate adaptation, international development, gender dynamics, and rural resilience. She has contributed to projects like the ACIAR initiative in Papua New Guinea and Australia's National Climate Risk Assessment.
Education: PhD (La Trobe University, 2016–2022), Graduate Certificates in Higher Education (2024) and International Health (Curtin University, 2015–2018), BA(Hons) and Diploma in French (La Trobe University).
Research interests span climate crisis education, governance frameworks for sustainability, and the intersection of development and environmental policy. Her recent publications emphasize bridging theoretical insights with practical climate adaptation strategies. She collaborates with NGOs and academic institutions globally, addressing complex social and environmental challenges.
Key projects include analyzing short-term international volunteering dynamics in Ghana and contributing to Australia's National Climate Adaptation Plan through empirical research on social tipping points and rural resilience.
