معرفی
Steffen Kutterolf is a research scientist at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and a lecturer at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, specializing in marine geology and volcanology. His research explores tephrostratigraphy, submarine volcanism, and volcanic-climate interactions across global volcanic arcs.
Education includes a Habilitation (2013) from Christian-Albrechts-Universität and a PhD (2001) from the University of Stuttgart, complemented by specialized training in analytical geochemistry and sedimentology.
Research focuses on explosive volcanism’s role in geological and atmospheric processes, with fieldwork spanning the Aegean, Central America, and Pacific arcs. Recent articles analyze volcanic records to understand climate-volcanism feedbacks and marine tephra deposition.
Awards include the IFM-GEOMAR Publication Award (2007, 2008) and invitations to keynote at major geoscience conferences. He has supervised 8 doctoral and 13 master’s theses and leads projects funded by DFG, NSF, and ICDP.
Coordinates international drilling expeditions (IODP) and collaborates with global institutions on volcanic risk assessment and paleoenvironmental reconstruction.
