Steffen Graether

Steffen Graether is a Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Guelph. His research focuses on plant stress proteins, particularly dehydrins and antifreeze proteins, using techniques like NMR and biophysical analysis. He also investigates educational strategies for large university classes.

Education: B.Sc. (Hons) and Ph.D. from Queen’s University; Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Alberta.

Research Interests:

• Cryoprotection mechanisms of intrinsically disordered dehydrins in plants under abiotic stress
• Structural and functional analysis of antifreeze proteins
• Pedagogy in large university classes to enhance student engagement

Lab and Teams: His lab employs NMR, CD, ITC, and DSC to study protein dynamics. Collaborations include work on Antarctic plant antifreeze proteins and halophyte dehydrins.
