Steffan Triplett is a Teaching Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics (CAAPP) at the University of Pittsburgh's Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences. He holds an MFA from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis, where he was a John B. Ervin Scholar. His work bridges cultural criticism, hybrid memoir, and creative nonfiction, with a focus on race, queerness, and identity in American culture.
Triplett’s nonfiction appears in Longreads, Vulture, and The Iowa Review, while his poetry and hybrid work is featured in Fence and DIAGRAM. He has been anthologized in Nepantla: An Anthology Dedicated to Queer Poets of Color and Revisiting the Elegy in the Black Lives Matter Era. His forthcoming memoir, Bad Forecast (Essay Press, 2024), explores environmental and personal narratives.
Triplett has received fellowships from Cave Canem, Callaloo, and Lambda Literary, along with grants from Tin House and the Blue Mountain Center. He has been recognized with the Brutal Nation Prize in Prose and Pushcart Prize nominations.
As an educator, he advises students in creative writing and cultural studies, leading initiatives through CAAPP and the CEC Hill District. His research and pedagogy emphasize intersectionality and marginalized voices in literary arts.
