Stefano MALAVASI is a Full Professor at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, affiliated with the Department of Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Statistics. His research focuses on conservation biology, ecology, and the impacts of climate change on aquatic ecosystems. He leads the Research Institute for Green and Blue Growth and supervises laboratory activities. His work integrates field studies, biochemical analyses, and acoustic monitoring to address biodiversity conservation challenges.
Key research interests include fish behavior, habitat quality assessment, and the effects of environmental stressors on wildlife. He has contributed to projects funded by EU initiatives (e.g., LIFE PollinAction) and regional agencies (e.g., Corila-MAV). Teaching responsibilities span conservation biology, wildlife management, and animal biology modules at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Publications highlight studies on turtle nesting ecology, stress biomarkers in fish, and acoustic communication in marine species. His work emphasizes practical applications, such as developing ecological indicators for policy frameworks and mitigating human impacts on lagoon ecosystems. Current projects include passive acoustic monitoring of fish populations and climate change adaptation strategies for aquatic species.
Prof. Malavasi collaborates with international teams and serves as a referee for journals like Ethology and Plos One. His lab focuses on bridging ecological research with sustainable management practices, addressing issues like invasive species control and habitat restoration.
