معرفی
Stefano Lugli is a Full Professor at the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. His research focuses on stratigraphy, sedimentology, and geological hazards, with particular emphasis on the Messinian Salinity Crisis, seismic liquefaction, and karst systems. He teaches advanced courses on integrated stratigraphy, astrochronology, and geological mapping.
His work combines field studies, laboratory analysis, and interdisciplinary approaches. Key projects include investigations into the timing and environmental impacts of the Messinian Salinity Crisis, liquefaction mechanisms in alluvial plains, and UNESCO World Heritage nominations for evaporite karst systems in the Northern Apennines. Recent studies highlight his contributions to understanding earthquake-induced ground failures, such as during the 2012 Emilia and 2020 Petrinja earthquakes.
Lugli also applies geochronological methods (e.g., radiocarbon, thermoluminescence) to reconstruct historical building damage and restoration chronologies, such as in Modena Cathedral. His research bridges geological processes with societal applications, including natural hazard mitigation and cultural heritage preservation.
