Stefanie Höhl

Stefanie Höhl is a Professor of Developmental Psychology and Head of the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology at the University of Vienna's Faculty of Psychology, where she also serves as Vice Dean.

Her educational background includes:

• Diploma in Psychology from Ruprecht Karls University Heidelberg (2007)
• Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) from the University of Leipzig (2008)
• Habilitation from the University of Heidelberg (2013)

Her research focuses on developmental psychology and social neuroscience, particularly neuronal and behavioral synchrony during social interactions using EEG/fNIRS hyperscanning, functional relevance of neuronal rhythms, social learning and communication in development, and the development of face, emotion, and gaze perception. Her work centers on infant and child cognition within naturalistic social contexts.

Professor Höhl has received several prestigious awards:

• Klaus-Georg and Sigrid Hengstberger Prize for Young Scientists at Heidelberg University (2011)

She actively mentors graduate students through Master's and PhD thesis seminars, and leads research initiatives including the Max Planck Research Group on Early Social Cognition. Her department serves as a primary hub for developmental psychology research at the University of Vienna, with ongoing studies on social-cognitive development across the lifespan.
