Christodoulos Stefanadis is an Emeritus and Honorary Professor of Cardiology at the Medical School of the University of Athens, holding adjunct professorships at Emory University and Yale University. He serves as President of the Research Institute for Longevity and Prevention of Aging Diseases and has held leadership roles in national and international organizations, including the Hellenic Cardiological Society and the National Bioethics Committee.
He completed his cardiology specialization at the University of Athens (1978) and earned a doctorate from its Medical School (1981). His research focuses on interventional cardiology, atherosclerosis, vascular disease, and innovative medical devices such as catheters and stents. Notable contributions include developing retrograde mitral valve techniques, thermal heterogeneity detection in plaques, and autologous vein-wrapped stents.
His awards include the Simon Dack Award (2011) and recognition as an 'Elite Reviewer' by JACC (2005). With over 1,685 peer-reviewed publications and an h-index of 124, he ranks globally first in publication volume. He currently serves in the Hellenic Parliament and chairs the Greece-France Friendship Group.
Advisory roles include Vice President of ESET (2005–2009) and editorial leadership at journals like Hellenic Cardiology and Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
