معرفی
Dr. Stefan Fischer is currently the Head of the Tübingen Structural Microscopy Core Facility (TSM) at the University of Tübingen, leading a team focused on advanced microscopy techniques. Previously (2014–2020), he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Evolutionary Biology of Invertebrates at Eberhard Karls University Tübingen. His research focuses on structural biology, microscopy, and insect vision systems, particularly studying compound eye miniaturization and ultrastructural adaptations in small insects. He holds a PhD from Jacobs University Bremen (2012) and conducted postdoctoral research at Dalhousie University (2013–2014).
His work bridges entomology, environmental science, and material science, with notable contributions to understanding microbial mineral formation, permafrost geochemistry, and 3D ultrastructural analysis. He is affiliated with the German Zoological Association and the Network for Electron Microscopy Tübingen (NET), actively presenting at international conferences on topics like microbially influenced corrosion and insect visual systems.
Key research areas include: insect eye evolution, structural microscopy applications, iron cycling in ecosystems, and bio-inspired material design. His lab supports interdisciplinary projects involving 3D imaging, microbial geochemistry, and nanostructured materials.
