Stefan Ficner

Prof. Dr. hab. Stefan Ficner (born 1952) is a full-time professor at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of Arts in Poznań, where he leads the Lithography Studio. A graduate of his alma mater (1981), he specializes in traditional lithography techniques using stone matrices and has significantly contributed to Polish and international art education through exhibitions, publications, and co-founding the Student Graphic Arts Biennial.

• Education: Graduated from the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznań (now Magdalena Abakanowicz University of Arts in Poznań) in 1981 with diplomas in Lithography (under Professor Lucjan Mianowski) and Poster Design (under Professor Waldemar Świerzy).

Research & Artistic Practice: Ficner's career has focused on artistic graphics, particularly lithography, and he edited the textbook Workshop Manual: Artistic Graphics (2007), authoring its lithography chapter. His work emphasizes traditional techniques and cross-border artistic collaboration.

Awards & Recognition: He has received prestigious honors including the Minister of Culture and Art Award (First Class, 1990) and the Poznań City Medal of Art (1991), alongside a 1988 scholarship from the Foundation for Intellectual Entracement Europee.

Projects & Leadership: Ficner co-founded the Student Graphic Arts Biennial (1997–present) and managed the non-commercial Wielka 19 Gallery (1983–1990), organizing 200+ exhibitions featuring Polish and international artists.
