Stefan Brehm is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies, Lund University, affiliated with the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology. He is also an Academic Advisor and a member of the LU Profile Area on Human Rights. His work spans political economy, digital governance, and environmental policy in China.

Stefan's research focuses on the political economy of regulation, financial systems, and social change in China. His recent work explores the social credit system, environmental model cities, and digital authoritarianism. He is a key member of the 'Digital China' research group, analyzing data as a tool for power redistribution.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend toward digital governance, human rights in supply chains, and environmental policy. Themes include algorithmic control, datafication, transparency, and sustainable urban development, often with a comparative or policy-evaluation lens.
