Dr. Stavros Kalaitzidis is a Professor at the Department of Geology, University of Patras, Greece. He holds a BSc and PhD from the University of Patras. His research focuses on Economic Geology, particularly Peat & Coal Geology, Ore Geology, Organic Petrology, and Environmental Applications of Coals. He teaches courses such as Ore Geology, Exploration Geology, and Environmental Impact Assessment. His work spans coal utilization, hydrocarbon potential, and mineral exploration in regions like Iraqi Kurdistan and Nigeria. He collaborates internationally on topics including coal petrology, biomass fuels, and environmental remediation. His contributions include studies on coal formation, geochemical characterization of ores, and the application of organic petrology to energy and environmental challenges.
- Education: BSc (Patras), PhD (Patras)
- Research Highlights: Listvenitization in Iraqi Kurdistan, Nigerian lignite studies, coal combustion by-products, and climate records in Greece.
His publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, combining mineralogy, geochemistry, and advanced analytical techniques to address geological and environmental issues. He actively participates in international conferences and initiatives like the ICCP (International Committee for Coal and Organic Petrology).
