Stanley Riddell is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington and a Member and Associate Program Head at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He holds a Hans Fischer Senior Fellowship at the Technical University of Munich’s (TUM) Institute for Advanced Study (TUM-IAS), with a focus on Clinical Cell Processing and Purification. His research centers on developing adoptive T cell therapies for cancer and viral infections, particularly leveraging antigen-specific T cells and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) engineering. His work includes understanding T cell memory subsets and improving CAR T-cell persistence and specificity.
Key achievements include pioneering studies on adoptive transfer of T cells for cytomegalovirus (CMV) and leukemia, as well as defining optimal subsets of T cells for clinical efficacy. He has received numerous awards, including the 2008 American College of Physicians Fellowship and the 1992–1996 Partridge Foundation Investigator Award. His recent work emphasizes safe CAR T-cell designs and overcoming toxicity challenges.
- Education: M.D. from the University of Manitoba, residency and training at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and University of Washington.
- Research Focus: CAR T-cell therapy, T cell memory biology, clinical translation of cell-based therapies.
Publications highlight advancements in CAR engineering, T cell subset composition effects on efficacy, and safety protocols for CAR T-cell depletion. His contributions have transformed adoptive immunotherapy approaches in oncology and infectious diseases.
