Stanley Culpepper is a Professor and Extension Weed Scientist in the Crop and Soil Sciences Department at the University of Georgia, affiliated with the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences (CAES). He leads research at the National Environmentally Sound Production Agriculture Laboratory (NESPAL) and has been with UGA since 1999, focusing on cotton, vegetable, and small grain weed management. His work emphasizes sustainable agricultural practices and environmental stewardship.
Research Interests: Stanley’s expertise spans weed science, pesticide regulations, and crop production systems. He has pioneered efforts to mitigate herbicide resistance and ozone layer depletion through innovative weed management strategies. His contributions include developing state herbicide labels (Section 18/24c) and advancing environmentally sound agricultural practices.
Awards and Recognition:
- EPA’s Montreal Protocol Award (first Extension recipient)
- Member of the U.S. EPA’s Science Advisory Board Agricultural Science Committee
Stanley has authored/co-authored 92 refereed journal articles, 4 book chapters, and numerous extension publications. He has delivered 261 presentations across 24 U.S. states and internationally, training growers and extension agents in best practices. His work bridges research, policy, and practical application in agriculture.
