Stanislav Molchanov is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), where he has held the position since 1994. His primary affiliation is with the Mathematics & Statistics Department. Born on 21 December 1940 in Snetinovo, Russian Federation, he has an extensive academic background, including a Candidate of Sciences (Ph.D.) from Moscow State University (1967) and a Doctor of Sciences (1983).
His research focuses on probability theory, stochastic processes, spectral theory, and applications to physics, geophysics, and biochemistry. Notable areas include Martin boundary theory, diffusion processes on Riemannian manifolds, and intermittency in disordered structures. He has held visiting professorships at institutions such as the University of California, Irvine; University of Southern California; Ruhr University Bochum; and Cambridge University, among others.
Molchanov has been an academic advisor to the International Laboratory of Stochastic Analysis at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (since 2015). His awards include the Rothschild Fellowship awarded in 2022 during his visit to Cambridge University.
