Stanisław Obirek is a Full Professor of Humanities at the University of Warsaw, specializing in religion's role in modern cultures. He previously held visiting professorships at Holy Cross College (Worcester, MA), St. Louis University, Università di Genova, LUISS University Rome, and Sapienza University Rome. His research focuses on postsecularism, interreligious dialogue, and cultural conflicts, with notable publications including The Jesuits in the Commonwealth of Poland-Lithuania, 1564-1668 (1996) and Global Catholicism, Tolerance and Open Society (2020). He is currently working on a book exploring global postsecularism.
His academic roles include membership in the American Studies Center (ASC) evaluation commission. Key achievements include a 2020 invitation to the Centennial Symposium on Pope John Paul II at NYU and guest lectures at institutions across Europe. Obirek’s work bridges philosophy, cultural studies, and religious history, with a focus on Polish-Jewish relations and Catholic identity in globalization.
Research interests span postsecularism’s global implications, Jewish-Christian dialogue, and religious responses to cultural conflicts. His articles analyze topics from Polish Catholicism’s moral authority to the role of faith in a post-secular world. Beyond academia, he enjoys jazz and classical music.
