Stacey Steen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Languages & Intercultural Studies at Heriot-Watt University, UK. With 25+ years as a qualified interpreter in ASL/BSL-English, she bridges academic and professional expertise. Her roles include teaching interpreting modules, supervising students, and contributing to marketing/recruitment strategies. Research focuses on digital technology in interpreter education, higher education systems, and intercultural communication.
She holds a Global Values Award (2019) and Guardian Social & Community Impact Award (2017). Her work explores AI-driven tools in interpreting, remote platforms, and virtual learning environments. Administrative contributions include strategic planning for LINCS programmes and organizing open days to attract prospective students.
Stacey actively collaborates with Fife Council (2022–2023) and serves on the editorial board of Palgrave Macmillan. Her research emphasizes interpreter work readiness and institutional structures impacting education quality.
