Stéphane Fournier is a Replacement Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa, currently on leave from the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI). He teaches courses in Financial Institutions Regulation, Insurance, and Contracts.
His educational background includes:
- B.Sc.Soc. from the University of Ottawa
- LL.B. from the University of Ottawa
- LL.M. in progress at the University of Ottawa
Professor Fournier's research and professional work focus on financial regulation, particularly in the areas of banking law, securities regulation, insurance law, and contract law. His experience at OSFI, where he interprets and applies the Bank Act and related statutes to complex financial scenarios, provides a practical foundation for his academic contributions. He has been deeply involved in regulatory work surrounding the 2008 global financial crisis and handles high-stakes matters including issuer bids, takeover regulations, and commercial contracts like shareholders agreements and reinsurance.
He actively contributes to OSFI’s Employment Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee and Inclusion Network, identifying as a member of the disability community.
