معرفی
Dr. Srinivasa T. Reddy is a Professor-in-Residence in both the Department of Medicine and the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). His academic journey includes a B.Sc (Hons) in Chemistry from Osmania University (1984), M. Sc (Hons) in Biological Sciences from Roorkee University (1986), a PhD in Comparative Biochemistry from UC Berkeley (1992), and post-doctoral training in Cell and Molecular Biology at UCLA (1997).
Dr. Reddy's research primarily focuses on lipoprotein metabolism, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, inflammation, and paraoxonase enzymes. His work has significantly advanced our understanding of how HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) functions in inflammatory conditions and how apolipoprotein mimetic peptides can be used therapeutically. His innovative research spans multiple disciplines, connecting intestinal lipid metabolism with systemic diseases including cardiovascular conditions and cancer. He has pioneered work on the gut-lung axis and gut-cardiovascular axis, demonstrating how intestinal processes influence distant organ systems.
Analysis of Dr. Reddy's recent publications (2024-2025) reveals a strong emphasis on sepsis subphenotyping based on lipid metabolism, the role of paraoxonase enzymes in autoimmune diseases, and the connections between intestinal processes and systemic diseases. His work increasingly incorporates multi-omics approaches and translational research, moving findings from basic science to clinical applications. A notable trend is his focus on developing diagnostic tools and therapeutic interventions targeting lipoprotein metabolism across various disease states.
Dr. Reddy has received several prestigious awards including:
- Gold Medal from Roorkee University (1984-1986)
- George Popjak Award from UCLA (2000-2001)
His research program has been supported by numerous NIH grants, particularly R01 mechanisms and T32 training grants. Dr. Reddy has mentored many graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who have gone on to successful careers in academia and industry. His laboratory has been particularly influential in establishing the importance of intestinal lipid metabolism in systemic inflammatory conditions.
Dr. Reddy leads a multidisciplinary research team that includes molecular biologists, lipid biochemists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians. His laboratory has developed several innovative models for studying lipoprotein metabolism in inflammatory conditions and has pioneered the use of apolipoprotein mimetic peptides as therapeutic agents. Current work focuses on translating these findings into clinical applications for sepsis, autoimmune diseases, and cancer.
