Spiros Katsifis

Spiros Katsifis, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biology at the University of Bridgeport, affiliated with the College of Science & Society and the Natural Science and Mathematics department. He has taught courses such as Cell-Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, and Toxicology.

Katsifis’ research focuses on molecular toxicology, environmental oncology, and genetic mutagenesis. His work explores interactions between heavy metals (nickel, lead, arsenic) and UV-light, DNA damage biomarkers, and carcinogen exposure mechanisms.

Katsifis’ publications from 1989–1998 highlight themes in heavy metal toxicity, UV radiation effects, and DNA repair processes. Key studies include nickel-induced cytogenetic changes and antagonistic interactions of lead/arsenic with UV-light.
