Sovent Taylor is a faculty member at the University of Mississippi, serving as the Director of the Health Professions Advising Office and an Adjunct Instructor of Business Communication in the School of Business Administration. He has dedicated his career to advising students pursuing careers in dentistry and healthcare administration.
- Education: B.B.A. in Business and B.A. in Psychology (2003), M.A. in Higher Education (2006), Ed.D. in Higher Education (2018), all from the University of Mississippi.
His research and professional interests focus on academic advising, health professions education, and higher education administration. Dr. Taylor has held various roles across the university, including Regional Admissions Counselor, Academic Advisor, and Assistant Director of the Health Professions Advising Office, where he has demonstrated leadership in student success initiatives.
- Scientific Awards: UM Academic Advising Network’s Excellence in Advising Award (2017), Frist Student Services Award (2020), Daniel W. Jones Outstanding Team Award (2022), Live the Creed Award (2019-20), Excellence in Teaching Award from NSLS (2019), and Outstanding Leadership Award from UM Staff Council President (2016).
Dr. Taylor actively contributes to institutional governance through memberships on the Academic Recruitment Committee, Proactive Advising for Students Success Task Force, Human Resources Development Committee, and Incident Phone Responder Team. He advises health-related student organizations, including the Ole Miss Pre-Dental Society and Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS).
