Associate Professor Soufiane Boufous is an injury epidemiologist at the University of New South Wales School of Aviation, with extensive expertise in trauma burden assessment and injury prevention. Holding a Masters in Public Health from the University of Sydney and a PhD in Epidemiology from UNSW, his research bridges public health and transportation safety with a particular focus on vulnerable road users.
His primary research interests include injury epidemiology, road safety (particularly cycling safety), aviation safety, and the Global Burden of Disease. His work combines methodological innovation in injury surveillance with practical applications for evidence-based policy development. Recent publications reveal a growing focus on aviation safety alongside his longstanding expertise in cycling and road safety research.
Professor Boufous' publication trends show a consistent contribution to high-impact journals, with particular emphasis on longitudinal studies of driver behavior, cycling safety interventions, and large-scale epidemiological analyses through the Global Burden of Disease initiative. His research spans methodological development, observational studies, and policy-relevant analyses that address critical transportation safety challenges in Australia and globally.
His collaborative work extends across multiple institutions and disciplines, contributing to major epidemiological studies that inform public health policy. Through his involvement in the Global Burden of Disease studies, he has helped shape understanding of injury patterns and risk factors across diverse populations and settings.
