Soren Kristensen is a Lecturer in Health Economics at the Manchester Centre for Health Economics, University of Manchester. He holds visiting positions at the University of Southern Denmark and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He earned an MSc (2008) and PhD (2012) in Economics from the University of Southern Denmark.
His research focuses on incentive design and effects in healthcare systems, particularly financial penalties for quality improvement and integrated care payment models. Key methodologies include microeconometric analysis of large datasets and incentive theory frameworks. Notable contributions include studies on spillover effects of provider incentives and the design of payment-for-performance systems in global health contexts.
He received a 2013 Postdoctoral Grant from Denmark’s Council for Independent Research for work on organizational incentives in public procurement. As a co-investigator, he contributes to the Horizon 2020 project on sustainable integrated care models for multimorbidity.
Recent work explores unintended consequences of financial incentives, such as spillover effects on non-targeted patients and antibiotic prescribing behavior under pressure. His research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and sustainable systems.
