Sophie von Stumm

Professor Sophie von Stumm is the Director of the Hungry Mind Lab at the Department of Education, University of York. She holds a Professorship in Psychology in Education and leads research at the intersection of psychology, education, sociology, epidemiology, and genomics. Her work focuses on three core areas: (a) using genome-wide polygenic scores to understand educational outcomes; (b) examining early life environments' impact on language development; and (c) exploring how personality traits like curiosity and imagination influence learning. Funded by the British Academy, Jacobs Foundation, and Nuffield Foundation, she actively collaborates on interdisciplinary projects and mentors PhD students interested in these domains.
