Sophie van Romburgh is a University Lecturer at the Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society (part of the Faculty of Humanities at Leiden University). Her work focuses on interdisciplinary art practices, including sculpture, sound installations, and performance art. She explores themes such as materiality, environmental philosophy, and the interplay between human perception and natural elements. Her research often integrates concepts from philosophy (e.g., Deleuze and Guattari's rhizomatic theory, Michael Marder's 'plant-thinking') with artistic experimentation.
Key projects include sound sculptures, drawing installations, and site-specific exhibitions such as Ademtocht at Vaaggrond (2012–2013) and participatory works like Una paloma blanca. Her practice emphasizes tactile engagement with materials and the exploration of space through dynamic, time-based installations. Sophie van Romburgh has exhibited widely, including at KABK and Ars Aemula Naturae in Leiden.
She holds an ORCID iD (0000-0002-4400-4586) and can be contacted at s.g.van.romburgh@hum.leidenuniv.nl.
