Sophie Nyborg

Sophie Nyborg serves as Senior Researcher at DTU's Department of Wind and Energy Systems, Society, Market and Policy Wind Energy Systems Division, based at Risø Campus in Roskilde. Her work bridges social science and engineering to address societal dimensions of renewable energy deployment, contributing directly to UN Sustainable Development Goals through energy justice and transition research.

Nyborg's research centers on wind energy integration challenges, particularly wind turbine noise controversies, community energy models, and smart grid consumer engagement. She employs qualitative and participatory methods to investigate co-creation processes in living labs, energy justice frameworks, and stakeholder dynamics in Denmark's green transition. Her fingerprint analysis reveals dominant expertise in Wind Power (100%), Danish Energy Systems (56%), and Co-Creation (36%).

Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on societal barriers to wind energy adoption, with emerging emphasis on university campuses as living labs for energy experimentation. Her 2024-2025 work analyzes DTU Smart Campus as a co-creation site while examining wind turbine noise through interdisciplinary lenses that integrate scientific and social perspectives.

Nyborg actively supervises PhD candidates including D. N. Frantzen (wind turbine sound) and L. G. Elkjær (wind energy society interfaces).
