Sophia Praetorius is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Geneva's Geneva School of Economics and Management, collaborating with Professor Monika Mrázová. Previously, she completed her PhD in Economics at Sciences Po Paris in September 2025 under Professor Thierry Mayer, with a thesis on 'Trade Cost and Global Production Networks'.
Her academic background includes:
- PhD in Economics, Sciences Po Paris (2021-2025)
- Master's and Bachelor's degrees from University of Mannheim (including exchange at National University of Singapore)
Dr. Praetorius specializes in International Trade and Industrial Organization, examining how licensing agreements and joint ventures influence multinational production decisions within global value chains. Her methodology combines theoretical modeling with empirical analysis of trade flows and firm networks, particularly investigating how trade costs propagate through production hierarchies.
She received the RoWE Young Economist Prize 2025 at the ETSG conference in Milan. During her doctoral studies, she held a fellowship at PSE's Globalization Chair (2024-2025) and conducted research at Harvard University with Professor Marc Melitz.
As a postdoctoral scholar, Dr. Praetorius participates in Professor Mrázová's research group without independent student supervision. Her current position provides full funding for three years, enabling dedicated research time and access to University of Geneva's international economics resources. She actively contributes to seminar series at GSEM and maintains collaborations with Sciences Po Paris and Harvard University.
