Sophia New

Prof. Sophia New is a Visiting Professor at the University of the Arts Berlin (UDK Berlin), affiliated with the Studium Generale and the Interdisciplinary Artistic Theory and Practice department. Her work bridges performance art, feminist theory, and experimental practices. She co-founded the interdisciplinary art collective plan b in 2002, focusing on durational, site-specific, and data-driven performances. New holds a PhD from the University of Exeter, examining the transformation of daily data into artistic forms through drawing, narrative, and knotting.

Her teaching spans over a decade, including roles at the HZT (MA Solo/Dance/Authorship), Folkwang University, Bard College, and others. She emphasizes live art, performance pedagogy, and collaborative practices. New’s research integrates GPS data collection and interdisciplinary methodologies, reflecting her commitment to innovative artistic inquiry.

She currently collaborates with Daniel Belasco Rogers as a Guest Professor, fostering critical discourse through Studium Generale. Her practice and pedagogy prioritize interdisciplinary experimentation and the intersection of art, technology, and social critique.
