Sophia Angelis is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oslo's Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law, affiliated with the Faculty of Law. Her PhD project (2023–2026) focuses on comparative prison law between Norway and the United States, examining disciplinary processes and legal frameworks in penal systems. Previously, she was a prisoners' rights attorney in the U.S. and conducted a Fulbright-funded research project on prison architecture in Norway, collaborating with the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. She holds a J.D. from Yale Law School.
Her research interests include prison discipline, criminal procedure, and comparative legal systems, with a focus on topics like solitary confinement, penology, and the intersection of law and social control. The project is funded by the University of Oslo and contributes to understanding how post-conviction protections differ between the two nations.
