Soon Ae Chun is a Professor and Director of the Information Systems and Informatics program at the College of Staten Island (CSI) and a faculty member in the Computer Science PhD and Data Science MS programs at the CUNY Graduate Center. She directs the NSF-sponsored iSecure Lab, focusing on cybersecurity, privacy, and digital government. Her research spans smart cities, health informatics, and data analytics, supported by NSF, NOAA, and international grants. She has published over 120 papers and serves as editor-in-chief of the ACM Digital Government Research and Practice journal. Notable awards include the Fulbright Senior Scholarship and CUNY’s President’s Dolphin Award for scholarly achievement.
Education: PhD in Information Technology (Rutgers University), MBA and MS/MA in Computer Science and Linguistics (SUNY Buffalo), BA in English Education (Busan National University).
Research Interests: Cybersecurity education, privacy, semantic web, social data analytics, smart cities, and digital government policy. Current projects include cybersecurity ontology development, social health records, and AI-driven smart city policy assessment.
Awards & Grants: NSF grants for CARTA and CHMPR centers, Fulbright Senior Scholarship, DGS Distinguished Service Award. Over $2M in external funding from NSF, NJ State, and international agencies.
Labs & Teams: iSecure Lab (cybersecurity research), ACM Digital Government journal leadership, and collaborations with Seoul National University, NYU Governance Lab, and Rutgers.
